Primary Frustration

Am I the only one who’s pissed that the primary is all set and done before it even reaches my state? A good half of the country (probably more; I didn’t bother to do the math) should feel disenfranchised as voters right about now. Democracy my fucking ass. Last time around I changed my party affiliation from Independent to Democrat, and wouldn’t you know, my guy dropped out before “super” Tuesday because he was hopelessly outspent by Barack & Hillary. Imagine if the general election were to be held over a period of six months. What a fucking joke.

So now we got the choice between Willard and Barack. What’s the difference? One straps dogs to the roof of his car and the other has funny ears. Skin tone is about the same.

Don’t kid yourself. America is about as democratic as Sudan. We live in a two-party dictatorship owned and paid for by corporations.

GOP Debate

So are you going to watch the GOP “debate” on FOX tonight? Me neither. It’s a joke. Failing democracy disguised as reality TV. Or is it the other way around? Oh yeah, Huntsman’s out. (Insert Chinese characters that my browser can’t read saying “Goodbye loser” here.)

Tell Corporations To Stick To Business

Tell corporations to stick to business.

I just received this e-mail. I acted on it. So should you.

Dear Lars,

Once upon a time, corporations existed to produce goods and provide services to customers.

But these days it seems like corporations have a new priority – namely, spending millions to elect politicians who will do their bidding.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We can take back our democracy.

Please sign our petition urging corporations to refrain
from political spending in 2012!

The Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision opened the floodgates to special interest money in our elections. That money is now threatening to drown out the voices of ordinary Americans like you and me.

And while there are lots of options for reversing Citizens United, we can’t wait two, five or ten years for politicians to take action to fix our broken system.

We need to do something NOW. Let’s remind corporations to stick to business and refrain from political spending in the 2012 elections.

Sign our petition today, and we’ll deliver it to the top 500 corporations – starting with Bank of America, our #1 target as chosen by you, our Common Cause members and activists.

Thanks for all you do,

Bob Edgar
and the rest of the team at Common Cause

P.S. Please forward this message to four friends who also want to see corporations doing more to strengthen community, not investing in politics that divide it.
